Day 8

Summer vacation is here, just like the good old college days. We’re stuck with the family at home and can’t wait to go out with friends. Except that it’s not the case.

Lockdown Day 8 / Manila, Philippines

It is Day 8 of lockdown slash community quarantine and I’ve been trying to summon my thoughts since 3:30 in the afternoon. I’ve transferred my makeshift work/recreation station a couple of times in the hopes of finding my zone to write this entry, and six hours later I’m still staring.

It’s frustrating that I’m not moving any further and that my mind seems to be incapable of thinking properly right now, forgive me.

So my thoughts in a nutshell —

You thought seeing the news everyday for the past approximately 10 weeks have made you immune of the harsh reality but how it never ends just hits you, and suddenly, while you’re at the comfort of your home, you just can’t help but sigh.

I live in a third-world country and aside from the actual health crisis, there goes the layers of socio-economic status, political differences, self-image and poor comprehension (among other things) that we’re dealing with all at the same time. 104 million people whining — it’s unfathomable, really.

The sad truth of these all is that, regardless of what we say (or not say), do (or not do), there will be casualties. It’s anxiety-driving (and joy-destroying) but staying home, sitting down and following instructions are the biggest contributions we can share right now.

While we’re all in the midst of trying to figure this one out — in this challenging time, no matter what and where you are in this life, we all just gotta hang in there.

It’s crazy but yes, wash your hands.
