Currently Vol. 1

There’s this weekly link-up I used to participate in along with other bloggers (the old school, traditional ones circa early 2000s) years back. It served as some sort of a prompt, which was very helpful in keeping my online journal up to date without trying too hard — y’know, the primitive way as what I always say.

It’s called The Sunday Currently which had a list of items that would basically have to be filled out, on Sundays no less. This site has been live for quite a few years now and as much as I wanted to keep the updates coming, I often find myself at a loss for words so I guess doing something similar would push me at least. So here we are, trying to give the old routine another shot, in a different era l o l. Dropping the “Sunday” though because I don’t want to be confined with doing it just on a certain day as in my previous experience, it somehow felt monotonous and other days would be more interesting now too especially that a lot has changed with the way we do life. Looking at you, Covid???

Also, I initially thought of doing it the same way but I think the particular items no longer apply so this version is just gonna be pretty much a simple sharing of sorts. In short, it’s just the usual blabbing only I am sparing myself from the hassle of thinking of a post title every single time hahaha. Let’s go Volume 1!

  • It’s been a stay at home weekend and I have no complaints. To an aging millennial, nothing beats the joy of oversleeping l m a o

  • So our company requires us to work at the office once a week, with our team assigned on Wednesdays. Fortunately, each and everyone of us prefer working from home (apparently we have the same level of willingness to interact and that’s a good thing haha) but last Wednesday, I was pressured to go to the office in behalf of the team because we have a newcomer which the HR wanted us to meet assuming that we were on site given the mandate. Gaaahd I am such a big sister to a lot of kids now l o l. This incident led us to f i n a l l y comply but with internal arrangements in consideration of everyone’s social battery so that’s guaranteed hello city twice a month

  • Managed to start running again and I pledged to do 10x per month at the least, and my calculation for the month looked pretty realistic had I been able to resume the day after i went to the office. Everything seemed packed at work from then which is why today, at the 23rd of January, I’m only able to count three runs and to reach ten would need a miracle

  • Although, that might sound as just an excuse l o l because I was able to binge a handful of titles despite the workload this week haha #priorities

    • All Quiet on the Western Front — I know choosing to be a soldier would mean so much sacrifice but this movie made me see it more clearly. Fighting for the bigger cause that is beyond them is already too much, yet even having the basics as something that they also need to be concerned about amidst the bullets, explosions and dead bodies each day is unfairly a different story. Oh gahd to be part of the German troops at that time was such a tragic thing to experience.

    • The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House — omg this is just too kawaii for my life! I’ve always been a sucker for Japanese food and any cooking show that features their dishes is an automatic thumbs up! But this series hit it with me 5x more with every element — from the characters, costumes, setting, vibe, the cooking itself, and even the color grading — it all screamed purity and innocence. For the first time in my life I have loudly declared that I finally want to cook!

    • Where the Crawdads Sing — found it quite underwhelming in a general sense but Daisy Edgar Jones and Taylor John Smith’s chemistry gave off that The Notebook vibes — that destiny type of couple not to mention how they were perfect for the 1960s setting. I don’t know if it’s their facial features or the production did very well at providing authentic vintage feels? Gotta say though that I’m not a fan of the ending l o l my theory would’ve make a better finish i m h o

    • The Last of Us — as someone who’s completely unaware of the video game, I did not expect to like it as much as I actually do! The first episode was crafted so right — the right amount of context, events that already took place, even the total running time! The details in are all enough to get you craving for the next episode, which is where I am at this point l o l. I’ve been trying to refresh the page to see if it’s already up but I pretty much know it’s gonna be there during work hours on a Monday. Let’s see what I can do about that l m a o. Also, it’s Pedro Pascal damn it you know how he’s become one of those actors that make me check out content just by knowing he’s part of the cast. Oberyn is one of my favorite Game of Thrones characters, and Javier Peña is the most bad ass DEA agent to fight the Narcos war.

    • 1899 — gotta include this of course even if I have seen it during the break as I have not shared my piece at all. Knowing it comes from the minds of *hands down* two of the most brilliant creators I came across, 1899 has easily become one of those shows that I highly anticipated. I’ve been waiting since they teased it after DARK (aaaaahhh, nothing compares to this day!!) — and there, I’ve said it l o l. The production was pretty grand, and it’s actually good, it’s just that there had been a lot of elements that were very similar to Dark which to some might be good, but to me, that’s where I got pretty underwhelmed. I loved Dark so much which is why 1899 following the same path gave the “brain challenge/s” away, at least for Dark fans. It was not as mind-boggling, it had that unspoken pattern which made it easy to decipher. The season finale was a surprise, but it made me generate possibilities in my head that I wasn’t able to do with Dark. Season 3 already and my brain was still scrambling for answers l m a o I was literally feeling very stupid no aha moment at all hahaha! Still, it’s a bummer that there was no renewal for a season 2 to at least allow for the story to progress :( Who knows what Bo and Jantje could give because these two are undoubtedly one hell of a powerhouse combined!

  • The notification that Daughter’s got a new song immediately drove me to listen and aaaaaahhh just the first few notes already got me thinking of the very moment it would be fitting to play. So so amazed that after all these years, the connection that I’ve been feeling with this trio remains strong. Youth is still that one song that manages to keep my epidermis up from start to finish, it’s crazy. It’s been more than a decade since the first time I listened to them, but AAAAAAAAAAHHH, GOOSEBUMPS EVERY TIME. Elena’s voice, Remi’s drums and Igor’s guitars — the real music to my ears. I’m going hysterical lol but think of it as how I feel about Dark and Breaking Bad. It’s Daughter when it comes to music. I’d probably share more of this one of these days but for now, give it a listen! Excited for the whole album to drop!

  • Lastly, I’m mostly happy to have sent an email to S (one of my best friends) and though it’s less of the girly girl that we used to be at this point, us being there for each other despite the distance remains the same. I just wish we can still do our girl talks over coffee and write letters to each other but life’s kinda being real right now, heh.

It’s 2:36 AM and it’s technically Monday already but I choose to be stubborn and would probably stay up for an hour or two more which I know I’ll regret in the morning but whatever, we’ll have iced coffee to carry our asses off l o l
